The chinchilla is in the mammal class. They are rodents, and their family is called the Chinchillidae. Standard gray is the natural color of a chinchilla. Chinchillas are nocturnal, which means they spend most of the day sleeping or napping.These rodents are odorless and because of its thick fur it does not attract fleas or pests. Chinchillas should be housed in large rabbit-sized enclosures (at least 4’ x 4’ x 3’) as they are very active animals. Wire mesh is acceptable, with solid flooring.Never use a glass aquarium, due to the poor ventilation that it provides. Wooden nest box can be provided for sleeping, or as a comfortable resting place. It is crutial that your pet has a hide-a-way; it needs a sense of security. The best temperatures for your pet's living space: 50-60ºF (higher than 80º F can be fatal).

Chinchillas are veggetarians, but will eat an occasional raisen. Chinchillas should be fed 1-2 servings per day, at one and one half cup per serving. Here is a list of appropriet foods for your pet:
